Season 1 Episode 1
Sixteenth-century England comes alive in Show time’s The Tudors, a sexy television series that chronicles the tumultuous reign of King Henry VIII. In the feature role is Jonathan Rhys Meyers, a gifted Irish actor whose slim proportions bear no resemblance to the image of the bearded, burly redhead made famous in Hans Holbein’s portrait. But because Meyers so brilliantly captures the essence of the tyrannical, paternalistic ruler, no one can insist the series would be more believable if he dyed his hair red, grew a beard, and donned a fat suit.
